New Websites Launched!

Hi all, just a quick announcement: I’m finally phasing out “I Pee Photography” (my current website www.ipphotography.com) and replacing it with the new and (hopefully) improved Ian Plant Nature Photography. Please visit my new site and update your bookmarks! The new site is flash based, so it is a bit more dymanic and (once again, hopefully) more fun to look at. I’ll be adding new images and galleries in the coming months, so check back often!

Also, Joe Rossbach just updated his site, same address as before but with a new look. You may notice a passing similarity between our two new sites. Yep, we used the same web hosting service!

  1. Hi, Ian -

The biggest similarity I see between the sites at the moment is that neither is loading… ;^D Might be something local to me (although other sites load just fine), but if you can’t get to them either you might want to give Rackspace / Slicehost / your reseller a call…

I’m looking forward to being able to see the new site!

  2. Jack, the web hosting server picked an unfortunate time to get clogged up — it has been loading slowly this afternoon! Hopefully they will clear things up soon . . .

  3. Ian, the new site looks excellent. The only problem I saw is when the screen is not wide enough the title of the hidden popup menu covers the photo description.

  4. Thanks Ed. The screen varies in size with the browser size, so if one has a small monitor or is using their browser at something less than full size, stuff can get cramped. Unfortunately I can’t do anything about that. The image description box, however, can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the screen!

    Best,

    Ian

  5. I can only call (heavily) flash-based websites a very bad idea. As both a computer scientist and an amateur photographer, I think Flash should only be used when nothing else works. I just spent the past 45 minutes trying to load your Photo Journal, Gallery and Home pages, but since all are flash-based, all I got for my troubles was spinner… guess I’ll have to stick to your blog alone.

  6. Don’t know why you had a problem, all I can say is that sometimes the site server is slow (maybe they were doing some server maintenance?). Not sure that it has anything to do with the fact that the site is flash based, because it usually works just fine for people. Just every now and then things get clogged up, but it’s very sporadic — if you can explain why this might happen, I’m all ears. Of course, it seems to me that this sort of thing happens all the time with other websites, whether flash based or not. All I can suggest is try again — the site is loading just fine for me.

    Best regards,

    Ian

  7. Ian, I have noticed it slow occasionally and chalked it up to isp issues. Normally it is fine. The only problem I have with flash based pages is that they don’t work from my iPhone!
